On January 11, 2022, NeuroXess, a brain-computer interface (BCI) company based in Shanghai, announced that it has completed angel and pre-A rounds of financing worth 97 million yuan.
The leading investors of the financing are Shanda Capital and Sequoia Capital, along with other investors like Yonghua Capital, New Alliance Capital, and Naozhi Chuanglian. This is the largest early-stage financing in the field of brain-computer interface (BCI) in China. It also represents a new stage of development of invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) solutions in China.
NeuroXess is a high-tech life science company focusing on flexible BCI technologies to protect and explore the brain. The company reshapes and enhances human perception and cognition via BCI technology, safeguarding, exploring, and expanding brain limits, so that HI (human intelligence) and AI (artificial intelligence) may achieve the evolution from interaction to symbiosis, and finally, twinning.

NeuroXess is co-founded by Tiger Tao and Phoenix Peng. Tiger Tao is an authoritative expert in the field of brain-computer interface, artificial intelligence, and micro- and nano-sensing in China. He is currently a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and the founding director of 2020 X-Lab. Tiger Tao and his team published multiple high-quality papers and applied for dozens of core patents in the fields of micro- and nano-scale sensors, biomedical materials, and BCI. He is one of the representative scientists in those fields.
Phoenix Peng, a serial entrepreneur, was the founder and CEO of Keruyun (a SaaS company). He joined Alibaba Local Life as a senior vice president after Keruyun was wholly acquired by Alibaba Local Life for 1 billion.
In the future, NeuroXess will use a dual-track model, with Tiger Tao leading an elite advisory group of scientists to do research on cutting-edge technologies, and Phoenix Peng leading the commercial team to commercialize those cutting-edge technologies.
